The company is looking for large dormitories and empty warehouses for rehearsals.

The main building of the Szeged National Theater will be closed from January 1st to March 3rd, the Szeged municipality decided. The so-called Little Theater is closed from the beginning of January until February 15th. This also includes the Reök Palace in Szeged, the Regional All-Arts Center, as it also belongs to the theater’s institutions, László Barnák, director of the National Theater in Szeged, told the press. By closing the institutions, they can save more than one hundred million forints – this is also due to the fact that the price of gas in the theater has also increased nine times, and the price of electricity will be many times higher than before. There will be no performances during this time, but rehearsals will continue.

László Barnák added that they are also rehearsing for the presentation of the musical Fiddler on the Roof. They cannot use the building, which is left without heating and electricity, so the rehearsals are held in the halls of a dance school and they are looking for dormitory halls and emptied storage rooms for this purpose as well. In addition, the dates of the shows at the end of February and March will be announced, as well as other work will be carried out and the staff will be reassigned to other institutions in Szeged.
