22nd April – Today is Earth Day

First Earth Day was held in 1970, now it is an annual event celebrated on the 22nd of April.In 1969 at a UNESCO Conference in San Francisco, peace activist John McConnell proposed a day to honor our planet and the concept of peace. The first Earth Day was celebrated on the 21st of March in 1970, the first day of spring in the northern hemisphere. One month later another Earth Day was founded by United States Senator Gaylord Nelson held on the 22nd of April in 1970. Senator Gaylord Nelson was later awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom award in recognition of his work.

The Earth and its ecosystems are our home. In order to achieve a balance among the economic, social, and environmental needs of present and future generations, it is necessary to promote harmony with nature and the Earth.
