Local News

Excavations in Mikepércsi Street revealed 9, 3rd-4th century Sarmatian graves.

The archaeologist leading the excavations said that they had found objects from three different ages. The oldest objects are 6500 years old. Large pits used for clay extraction were discovered. The pits were full of household waste, like animal bones and splinters.
The ground water and the clay soil conserved the findings very well. The archaeologists found a graveyard with nine graves, too. Most of the graves were looted as the Sarmatians usually buried their dead ones together with their jewels. Beads and a Roman silver coin were also found in the graves but they don’t yet know from which emperor’s time. The leading archaeologist added that some objects from the Bronze Age were also excavated.
